BQ Blends is a specialty barbershop brand founded by a close friend from high school and master barber. As Eric's personal barber, he reached out wanting a standout visual identity that broke away from conventional barbershop tropes.

Create a hand-crafted mascot character with vintage 1930s rubberhose animation flair—something uniquely memorable that stood out from traditional barbershop tropes while being directly modeled after the barber himself. The goal was to capture his signature likeness (glasses, beard, backwards cap, and charismatic smile) through an iterative design process from initial paper sketches to final production artwork.
Initiated the design with raw pencil sketches on paper, testing head tilts, facial proportions, and beard weighting to capture his true likeness. Advanced through digital line-art studies to refine line weight and anatomical geometry before engineering the final full-body pose with electric clippers. Delivered multi-format assets including full-body character plates, monochrome vector line-art, and circular emblem badges centered on deep cobalt blue (#2A3887).
